Windows Is So Slow, but Why?

Posted by Billbar from New York Times

There is, after all, no shortage of smart software engineers working at the corporate campus in Redmond, Wash. The problem, it seems, is largely that Microsoft's past success and its bundling strategy have become a weakness. Each new version of Windows carries the baggage of its past.

    • Microsoft boxes up Vista

      Posted by bugeats from News.com

"Consumers will also be able to buy either Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium, in addition to the Ultimate edition, while businesses will be able to choose Vista Business or, if they have a volume licensing deal, they can opt for a higher-end Vista Enterprise edition. Microsoft also plans a Vista Starter edition that will be sold only on new PCs in emerging markets." -- and that, my friends, is exactly what is wrong with MS's aproach to software 'features'

    Microsoft abandons Yahoo bid

This Yahoo bid was stupid from the beginning. Microsoft was going to spend all its cash to chase Google in the advertising business? Huh? Ballmer clearly backed down when he didn’t want to ante up. I suspect the Microsoft board had second thoughts as well.

Microsoft's $528 million Washington tax break

You are misunderstanding – this is about Washington B & O taxes on corporations, not income taxes.

Blodget: MicroHoo ‘is gonna be a disaster’

At best a year to get the deal closed, two for integration. Multiple groups on each side working on similar projects… Sounds like a great idea and a nightmare to integrate.

Your concern that Microsoft is avoiding paying income taxes to the State of Washington is based on the erroneous belief that there is an income tax in Washington. Please check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_income_tax

I really don’t know what you’re belly aching about.

Bill Gates Issues Call For Kinder Capitalism

I honestly never would have predicted such thinking from BG several years ago.

What I want to see now is the staunch capitalist’s response to such thinking. Maybe the Economist will have something (dismissive and venomous, as usual) to say about it…
