      Fatah threatens to kill Hamas leaders

      Fatah gunmen threatened on Tuesday to kill leaders of the governing Hamas group, escalating a power struggle marked by the worst internal violence in Gaza and the West Bank since the Palestinian Authority was created in 1994. Twelve Palestinians have been killed and more than 100 wounded in two days of clashes in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank between the Fatah faction of President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas.

      In an extension of PNAC, Ralph Peters, analyst and ex-military intelligence officer, wrote an Armed Forces Journal article - aptly named "Blood Borders" - surpassing his new compatriots. Where they were content merely to usurp existing regimes, Peters has produced a detailed plan for re-ordering whole regions - ruthlessly chopping up Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, and creating new countries such as Greater Kurdistan, a Vatican-like "Islamic Sacred State" out of Mecca and Medina, and a "Free Baluchistan," tearing the oil-rich province away from Pakistan. He'd also lighten Islamabad of its troublesome Waziristan provinces and give them to Afghanistan.

      But with today's findings from the Pentagon, it looks like Murtha -- who has close ties to military leaders and cited inside sources in May -- had it exactly right when he said that the troops had "killed innocent civilians in cold blood," and that the military had covered it up. That can only compound the damage to America's global reputation, which stands increasingly against a backdrop of death and destruction in the Middle East.
