  Chinese troops fired tear gas at Tibetan monks protesting Chinese occupation of Tibet and later surrounded their monasteries. Is the growing spotlight on Tibetan independence a positive result of granting the Olympics to China or has this been a major mistake? Perhaps you've read about athlete's worrying about air pollution at the games, the U.S. importing their own meat to avoid the steroids laden in Chinese food, China's alleged mistreatment of migrant workers working on Olympic sites and its efforts at building a road to Everest base camp for the torch relay.

  Hundreds of Tibetan monks have taken to the streets of Lhasa in the biggest protest against communist rule in almost two decades, it emerged today. The show of defiance - which took place on the anniversary of a failed anti-Chinese uprising in 1959 - raised tensions in the Himalayan region, as the world spotlight shifts to Beijing's often harsh rule ahead of the Olympics.

NO.China will not fail. I believe foreign country should not interfer other countries fair.Tibet is one region in china since Tang dynasty.

third world country Mexico conducted 1968 olympics .China will do in 2008 at least as good as Mexico city olympics.It will not be a fiasco.

Thats right, Bush is China’s ***** because they lend the US money for the war.
Good luck getting the major news outlets to talk anything bad about China other than what the State Department allows them to say.

I think the IOC has failed to put parallel pressure on China to improve its human rights and environmental record ahead of the summer games. Granting China the games without having a plan to pressure them on specific reforms has turned into a major error. I suspect the games will turn into quite a fiasco.
