The Daily Show Rips MSM for Anna Nicole Coverage

Posted by newscloud from Crooks and Liars

The media circus surrounding this sad, sad story has pained me, so I really needed this. While the Bush administration is using the New York Times again to sell dubious claims about why we need to attack another middle eastern country, our entire media establishment (with rare exception) h...

      Kucinich Ignored in the Media

      Posted by rhoehn

Congressman Dennis Kucinich is again seeking the Democratic nomination for the President. He’s serious, but the media, when they cover him, are not. This despite the fact that his anti-war position is far more popular in ’07 than it was in ’03.

    • Foley Story Wasn't Reported, Until It Was

      Posted by Billbar from NPR

Months ago, several major media outlets learned about troubling e-mails Rep. Mark Foley had sent to former pages -- but they didn't feel they had enough information to go public with the story. Brian Ross of ABC News got the same information back in August -- but he found a way to crack the scandal open.

    • Study Finds Lack of Balance, Diversity, Public at PBS NewsHour

      Posted by Billbar

The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, PBS's flagship news program, touts its "signature style—low-key, evenhanded, inclusive of all perspectives"; Corporation for Public Broadcasting ombud Ken Bode called it "the mother ship of balance." But a new FAIR study finds that the NewsHour fails to provide either balance or diversity of perspectives—or a true public-minded alternative to its corporate competition. Among partisan sources, Republicans outnumbered Democrats on the NewsHour by 2-to-1 (66 percent vs. 33 percent). Only one representative of a third party appeared during the study period.

This is the only TV news show I watch and I completely agree that it’s biased, but I can’t abide the alternatives.

Fake e-mail publisher defended in Boston Globe

I was kind of surprised that the Globe would do this, but on thinking further, no. Blogs, especially blogs with large followings, are seen as a threat by the main stream media. Still, a hatchet job like that??

What happened to the media's love of sex scandals?

I watched the NewsHour on PBS Friday hoping for something in-depth. Nope. Heck, they barely even mentioned that Goss resigned without a replacement ready for him. Helen Thomas has a new book out about the MSM. It's mentioned at Crooks and Liars: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/05/06.html#a8186
