    • The whole world changed in two weeks

Posted by Billbar from Glenn Greenwald

George Bush paid a surprise visit this morning to Iraq and, according to the immediately solidified media consensus, this is but the latest step in the heroic political comeback of George W. Bush, and yet another sign that things are "turning around" in the war. Big news! The President has turned all of this around. He is now bold and successful again. And his oh-so-brave flight to Iraq symbolizes how strong and successful he is.

They [the press] are quite concerned, I believe, about whether a Democratic congress is going to behave properly. Certainly, the voice of beltway intellectual torpor, Joe Klein, is concerned that dark hued Democratic members have a problem with proper decorum. (We all saw that horrible, horrible funeral for Coretta Scott King.)

On Tony Snow's Tears, Maimed Vets, and Single Moms

Posted by Billbar from Daou Report

So, here is my suggestion. If Tony wants to weep, and to have Brian Williams and the rest of the Washington press corps weep, why not head over to Walter Reed Hospital and pick up a 21 year old kid with a quarter of his brain blown off and bring him to his next press conference.

    • Will Major Media Stop Hiding Electronic Election Fraud?

Posted by Billbar from Truth Out

That the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post finally ran coverage of problems with electronic voting machines this week is itself big news. It says the scandals surrounding computer fraud and financial illegalities at Diebold and other electronic voting machine companies have become simply too big and blatant for even the bought, docile mainstream media (MSM) to ignore.

Investigations are so very rude and distasteful

Posted by Billbar from Glenn Greenwald

There seems to be an emerging consensus among the coddled, effete Beltway media stars that it would be highly improper and uncouth for the Democrats -- should they take over one or both houses of Congress in November -- to launch investigations into the various, thus-far-uninvestigated lawbreaking and corruption scandals surrounding the Bush administration.

Of COURSE the show has more Rs than Ds—they control the government, for heaven’s sake!

This is the only TV news show I watch and I completely agree that it’s biased, but I can’t abide the alternatives.

Fake e-mail publisher defended in Boston Globe

I was kind of surprised that the Globe would do this, but on thinking further, no. Blogs, especially blogs with large followings, are seen as a threat by the main stream media. Still, a hatchet job like that??

What happened to the media's love of sex scandals?

I watched the NewsHour on PBS Friday hoping for something in-depth. Nope. Heck, they barely even mentioned that Goss resigned without a replacement ready for him. Helen Thomas has a new book out about the MSM. It's mentioned at Crooks and Liars: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/05/06.html#a8186
