      Oh, Poor You

      Posted by Billbar from firedoglake

It’s time for the media establishment to suck it up, and stop blaming all of us when we call them on facts that they get wrong. Inaccuracy is not something to defend in a bunker. We want our press with a spine back.

Fox, BBC, Al Jazeera most trusted: poll

Posted by Billbar from Yahoo News!

Asked to name the news source they most trusted, without any prompting, 59 percent of Egyptians said Al Jazeera, 52 percent of Brazilians said Rede Globo, 32 percent of Britons said the BBC, 22 percent of Germans said ARD and 11 percent of Americans said Fox News, each leading their respective nations.

    • Frivolous claims of secrecy

Posted by Billbar from Glenn Greenwald

The administration, of course, has long been using its religious embrace of secrecy as a means of blocking any investigation into the NSA program. Although it's very late in arriving, and is clearly the by-product of the fact that the President is weak on all fronts, the media seems increasingly, and finally, willing to report on at least some of the abuses of power to which we have been subjected for the last five years.

    • "When the media treated Al Gore like a circus clown"

Posted by Billbar from Daou Report

This is fifteen long years of watching the Times and the rest of the mainstream media buckle under the pressure of GOP accusations that they are biased, repeatedly take bogus GOP manufactured scandals and run with them like kids with a brand new kite, treat our elections like they are entertainment vehicles for bored reporters and generally kowtow to the Republican establishment as the path of least resistence.

    • Fake News Is No Joke

      Posted by Billbar from Alternet

By all means, lets support the campaign against "fake news" on TV. The practice involves Video News Releases, and it is wrong and it should be stopped. But is it the worst problem we have to contend with on TV news?

Of COURSE the show has more Rs than Ds—they control the government, for heaven’s sake!

This is the only TV news show I watch and I completely agree that it’s biased, but I can’t abide the alternatives.

Fake e-mail publisher defended in Boston Globe

I was kind of surprised that the Globe would do this, but on thinking further, no. Blogs, especially blogs with large followings, are seen as a threat by the main stream media. Still, a hatchet job like that??

What happened to the media's love of sex scandals?

I watched the NewsHour on PBS Friday hoping for something in-depth. Nope. Heck, they barely even mentioned that Goss resigned without a replacement ready for him. Helen Thomas has a new book out about the MSM. It's mentioned at Crooks and Liars: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/05/06.html#a8186
