      U. Utah Phillips Has Left the Stage

      Posted by Workingwriter

Utah Phillips died last night. Organizer, storyteller, hobo, Wobbly, songwriter, all-round funny guy and amazing performer. Utah (aka Bruce) was a unique presence on the cultural landscape. The younger crowd may remember his two CDs with Ani DiFranco a few years ago. I could go on for awhile, but let me tell you about this link first. Before we got into the car, Bill asked where the men’s room was. I said there would be one at our destination, only a few minutes away. Without a word, he put down his omnipresent pile of papers, walked over to a pillar, and relieved himself."

Writer William F. Buckley dies at 82

      Posted by Jeff from MSNBC

End of an era? Conservative end nigh? William F. Buckley Jr. died at work, in his study. The Cold War had ended long before. A Republican was in the White House. The word “liberal” had been shunned like an ill-mannered guest.

The way he fell hook line and sinker for the Iraq has nukes bull**** diminished him in my eyes. But, he was a Sunday morning tradition…like him or not.
