Becoming A Vancouverite – Or Not?

      Posted by Orato

After three years of living in Vancouver I feel mildly acclimatized. It is less of an effort to suppress my constant grumpiness and instead tell everyone that I’m feeling great. The traditional German grumpiness was, after all, one reason I left Germany. I do most of my thinking in English and my German vocabulary is dwindling, much to the horror of my family.

Photo Essay: The People Of Uganda

      Posted by Orato

In October, 2006 I went on safari in Uganda for three weeks. I've always loved animals, and this was a chance to get up close to wildlife, camping in the middle of forests and savannah, with lions, elephants, monkeys, hippos and all manner of other creatures. The main highlight of the safari was trekking into the mountains for close encounters with the mountain gorillas, only 700 or so of which remain in the entire world.

I am Jon Earle, 28, a New Zealander and an active member of the Pole to Pole Leadership Institute, a non-profit organization devoted to inspiring, empowering and training youth to address the critical issues of our time. Right now we’re preparing for the second Pole to Pole journey. The Odd Ducks Swimming At The Pickton Trial

      Posted by Orato

Court has been a little dry lately, so I thought to lighten the mood, we could talk about some of the "odd ducks" I have encountered at the courthouse. Now, I am not calling everyone who comes to see the trial an odd duck, but there are a few personalities who have stuck out so much, I just had to share.

I Believe In The Right To Own Firearms Despite Virginia Tech Tragedy

      Posted by Orato

If everyone owned and was trained to use a gun, we wouldn’t have any problems. A lot of the gun deaths are accidental because people aren't following proper safety procedures. Would Cho have gone into those classrooms if he’d felt someone else had a firearm? In Florida, when they first enacted their concealed carry permits, their overall crime rate dropped. But the crime rate against tourists increased because the criminals knew the tourists didn’t have a firearm.

Who Says The Girl Next Door Isn’t Sexy?

      Posted by Orato

I’ve been traveling the road as a performer and an artist for such a long time. In this industry, no one is an overnight success. There are a lot of trials and tribulations along the way. When people really do make it, it’s such an accomplishment because so much hard work comes before it. I’m prepared for that, because I know my time will come. Being on The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll reality series brought me that much closer to my dreams.

Scientology Exploits The Virginia Tech Tragedy

      Posted by Orato

As a journalist covering Scientology since 1996, I can assure readers that the cult is an evil, totalitarian mind-control outfit driven solely by greed as dictated by the unalterable doctrine of its insane, drug-addled, megalomaniac founder, L Ron Hubbard....most disturbing of late is their habit of exploiting tragedies for their own gain. The Virginia Tech tragedy is a case in point.
