      Posted by Billbar from Reuters

Fatah gunmen threatened on Tuesday to kill leaders of the governing Hamas group, escalating a power struggle marked by the worst internal violence in Gaza and the West Bank since the Palestinian Authority was created in 1994. Twelve Palestinians have been killed and more than 100 wounded in two days of clashes in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank between the Fatah faction of President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas.

Palestinian leaders urge world to accept unity gov't

      Posted by Billbar from Reuters

Israel and the United States have responded skeptically to the coalition government idea, agreed by Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas and President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday. The European Union has been more positive, believing it could re-energize the Middle East peace process. "The world should respect the will of the people whether it's a national unity government or a government of one color," Haniyeh said after meeting members of the Hamas Islamist group.

    • Israeli soldiers move into Gaza Strip town

Posted by Damianmann from USA Today

Israeli forces crossed into the Gaza Strip early Thursday in a raid that captured a local Hamas militant leader and left his brother dead near a Gaza border town, Palestinians witnesses and officials said. As the forces — backed by tanks and helicopter gunships — moved into the area of Abasan and took up positions on rooftops, militants began firing at them, sparking gunbattles that wounded two militants, Palestinian officials said.

    Lebanon Security Forces Attack Fatah

This headline is misleading. Fatah is commonly used to denote the secular bourgeois-nationalist group founded by Arafat, the largest group in the Palestine Liberation Organization, now engaged in a low level civil war in the Occupied Territories against Hamas. The group attacked by the Lebanese army is (apparently) an Islamic fundamentalist group called Fatah al-Islam.
