It was a country he would never see; instead, he was deployed to Iraq where he was shot and paralyzed. The injury left Tomas with more questions than answers: What did Iraq have to do with the attacks of 9-11 or Islamic terrorists? And if there were no weapons of mass destruction, what was the U.S. still doing in there? Tomas' personal story and public protest against the Iraq War inspired the newly-released documentary Body Of War, produced and directed by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro, featuring an original soundtrack by Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder.   In an apparent violation of U.S. policy, Peace Corps volunteers and a Fulbright scholar were asked by a U.S. Embassy official in Bolivia "to basically spy" on Cubans and Venezuelans in the country, according to Peace Corps personnel and the Fulbright scholar involved.

  The Saudis were playing their usual game today. They do not see any reason to say yes or no right now. In the meantime, the pressure on both America and Israel to accept their agenda for the conference will be mounting.
