    • DoD Watchers Mull the Next President

      Posted by okami from Military

Kansas City Star | By Scott Canon | February 20, 2008 Truman had MacArthur. Kennedy stumbled into the Bay of Pigs. George W. Bush returned the force of nature that is Donald Rumsfeld to the Pentagon. Whoever becomes the next commander in chief will wade into the sometimes uneasy world where admirals and generals cross paths, and sometimes swords, with presidents.

Walter Reed patients told to keep quiet

      Posted by Kathy from Armytimes

The Army Times reports that soldiers in Building 18 at Walter Reed Hospital must have to have rooms ready for daily inspection by 7 am -- and they can't talk to the press. "It is unusual for soldiers to have daily inspections after Basic Training." Seems to me that it would be unusual to have people in a hospital facility subject to an inspection, period. Are these soldiers being penalized for media reports on conditions at the hospital?

      Report Says Pentagon Manipulated Intel

Posted by Jeff from AP News

Gimble said that while the actions of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy "were not illegal or unauthorized," they "did not provide the most accurate analysis of intelligence to senior decision makers" at a time when the White House was moving toward war with Iraq.

So let me get this straight, Cheney authorizes Libby to speak to the press on matters of secret national security but our troops can’t talk about conditions in the VA?

Walter Reed patients told to keep quiet

Following up on its earlier report, the WaPo says that family members, soldiers, veteran’s groups (and others) have been complaining about Walter Reed for three years. The Army’s surgeon general supposedly knew about the complaints.

The Post lists public comment after public comment … going back to just after the Iraq War…. detailing problems…. and the need to develop solutions. :-/
