      Philanthropy Google's Way - Not the Usual

      A big story in the NYT today about Google's for profit philanthropy organization. This is similar to the way I organized my Habitat Espresso efforts in the late 90's just with a lot less cash. It's great to see new lifeblood in the NGO game - but I worry about the need to focus on results in key areas.

      Warren Buffett's new philanthropic alliance with fellow billionaire Bill Gates won widespread praise this week, but anti-abortion activists did not join in, instead assailing the two donors for their longtime support of Planned Parenthood and international birth-control programs.

    Incredible – this story is an incredible indictment of the free market blinders that Gates has operated Microsoft with – and apparently his foundation. What good is stopping malaria if economically you’re part of the destruction of the quality of life for people in the third world?
