Nation's power elite at play is no pretty picture

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Post-Intelligencer

It's the American power elite at play, as photographed by Alejandro Tomas over 26 years of attending an annual horse ride called Rancheros Visitadores in the Santa Ynez Valley near Santa Barbara, Calif. Tomas, a senior faculty member at Seattle Central Community College, has assembled a startling photo essay on leisure activities of leading citizens -- including a former president of the United States.

Seattle's Getty Images said it will exclusively offer its customers the right to license images from Flickr, a popular photo-sharing site owned by Yahoo. One analyst said the deal, of undisclosed value, will benefit both companies as well as photographers, who will now have a better chance of being paid for their work.

Photo Essay: The People Of Uganda

      Posted by Orato

In October, 2006 I went on safari in Uganda for three weeks. I've always loved animals, and this was a chance to get up close to wildlife, camping in the middle of forests and savannah, with lions, elephants, monkeys, hippos and all manner of other creatures. The main highlight of the safari was trekking into the mountains for close encounters with the mountain gorillas, only 700 or so of which remain in the entire world.

      A Chilling Photograph's Hidden History - WSJ.com

Posted by Jeff from Wall Street Journal

On Aug. 27, 1979, two parallel lines of 11 men formed on a field of dry dirt in Sanandaj, Iran. One group wore blindfolds. The other held rifles. The command came in Farsi to fire: "Atesh!" Behind the soldier farthest to the right, a 12th man also shot, his Nikon camera and Kodak film preserving in black and white a mass execution.

I think it’s fair to say they mirror the values of the American people are we would not elect them, or promote them to celebrity status.

Then of course, you can’t leave out the ratings chasing media that is their prime patron, either.

Regardless, who friggin’ cares what they do.  It wouldn’t cause an outrage, if this was on prime-time CNN.  The American people are stultified, so any response would be a few emails, from the few Americans that actually DO think.

In contrast to this, watching Obama and McCain joke around in tuxedos against the serious economic meltdown and mounting layoffs was also interesting. Video

Sort of reminds me of AIG getaways on steroids – or Tailhook. Pretty interesting column by Connelly.

New Photos Reveal Horror Of Hiroshima (GRAPHIC IMAGES)

Except if they are arguing against the case of Iran’s nuclear capabilities – in that case, the pics are real and it could happen to you!

The neocons know that those photos are fake, because the bodies look burned.
The neocons know that heat rises, and so the nuclear bombs could never have
    caused any burns.
