    • What Valerie Plame Really Did at the CIA

Posted by Billbar from The Nation

In the spring of 2002 Dick Cheney made one of his periodic trips to CIA headquarters. Though Cheney was already looking toward war, the officers of the agency's Joint Task Force on Iraq--part of the Counterproliferation Division of the agency's clandestine Directorate of Operations--were frantically toiling away in the basement, mounting espionage operations to gather information on the WMD programs Iraq might have. The JTFI was trying to find evidence that would back up the White House's assertion that Iraq was a WMD danger. Its chief of operations was a career undercover officer named Valerie Wilson.

Couple Reiterate Claims They Were Punished

Posted by Billbar from Washington Post

Former U.S. ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV and his wife, former CIA officer Valerie Plame, said yesterday that Vice President Cheney, presidential adviser Karl Rove and other administration officials knowingly lied and abused their power to get revenge against the couple for criticizing President Bush's rationale for going to war in Iraq. Plame, at a joint appearance with her husband at the National Press Club, said she would "much rather" be a CIA operative than a plaintiff in a lawsuit. She said that she and Wilson, both of whom had worked in government for years, filed the suit with "heavy hearts." Wilson said the couple were under "no illusions about how tough this fight will be." But, he said, "the time has come to hold those who use their official positions to exact personal revenge accountable and responsible for their actions."

McClellan to Testify About Plame Outing

This is exciting news if you are unaware of the fact that Joe Wilson is the reason her name was leaked. Her ID was leaked by Richard Armitage months before the Novak column. Armitage only knew who she was because Wilson was running his mouth and telling everyone that they had to listen to him because his wife was in the CIA.

But that isn’t exciting enough, it’s much more exciting if we can forget the facts and blame Bush.

Joseph Wilson made it clear a while ago that they would be doing this. I'm glad to see it happen, though.
