Americans have always accepted a certain level of economic inequality as the inevitable consequence of an open capitalist society where some people through their own efforts do better than others. The presumption is that there is fairness in the marketplace and economic system. What a quaint, outdated belief.

America was given a representative democracy within a constitutional republic where laws that protect all people trump majority rule. Standing between majority-won elections and government power are elected representatives: writing, overseeing and implementing laws. But when you can no longer trust the elected representatives what happens to American democracy? It becomes an oxymoron.

Shares of companies that make political contributions do much better than those of other companies. A study has found that the bigger the spread of candidates, the better the returns, perhaps by up to 6 per cent!. According to the study, defence, tobacco, aircraft, automobile and oil industries tend to hold the largest portfolios of supported candidates.

A New Political Party Is Needed

You seem to think Obama invented big money politics. All he did was perfect it. AND, he did it with small donations …..something the right never even considered. THEY prefer those corporate donations.

I think Obama, in a way, proved that a third party can be viable. It will take serious organization. But, it CAN be done. I think we have to wait to see how Obama does. If he fails, which they all do eventually, then we can sell the idea that we gave both parties complete control…and neither one was able to accomplish ****.
