Right wing jumps on right wing paper's report, Malkin says "I think these people have finally worn out their welcome. Yes, they’ll always have their apologists in the media. Yes, they have their water-carriers in Congress. But their incessant victim politicking–combined with their shady ties and their refusal to condemn jihad ..."

Phinney neighbors getting air-raid siren restored

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Post-Intelligencer

A block from my house: "The gangly, long-legged tower topped by a 2-ton siren recently was painted, sparking renewed interest in the Cold War relics. An interpretive center is being planned by the Phinney Neighborhood Association at the base of the tower to explain the role of the sirens and the fear of attacks gripping the country a half-century ago. In 1952, the city of Seattle installed 21 new air-raid sirens. They ranged from 7 to 180 horsepower, and the biggest ones could be clearly heard up to three miles away, according to newspaper reports at the time."

My name is SPC Chris Erickson with U.S. Central Command Public Affairs. I came across your blog today and noticed your interest in different topics, particularly on the GWOT. As a member of the US military, I like seeing open discussions on the happenings of the world, although many times I€™m not able to get involved (especially if it gets political).

    • Positive Press on Iraq Is Aim of U.S. Contract

Posted by Billbar from Washington Post

The contract calls for assembling a database of selected news stories and assessing their tone as part of a program to provide "public relations products" that would improve coverage of the military command's performance, according to a statement of work attached to the proposal. The proposal, which calls in part for extensive monitoring and analysis of Iraqi, Middle Eastern and American media, is designed to help the coalition forces understand "the communications environment." Its goal is to "develop communication strategies and tactics, identify opportunities, and execute events . . . to effectively communicate Iraqi government and coalition's goals, and build support among our strategic audiences in achieving these goals."

Excerpts From Bush Statement About Critics of Iraq Policy

Posted by Jeff from New York Times

We can't "Leave Iraq before the job is done" is the day's meme. Bush repeated it eight times if you can't the first "leaving Iraq before the mission is complete". So I have one question Mr. Bush? Just how do you intend to get the job done in Iraq? Because what you're doing isn't working at all.

Kristof on GOP's Fake Media Witch hunt

Posted by Jeff from New York Times

More broadly, the one thing worse than a press that is "out of control" is one that is under control. Anybody who has lived in a Communist country knows that. Just consider what would happen if the news media as a whole were as docile to the administration as Fox News or The Wall Street Journal editorial page.

Edward Herman and Srebrenica Genocide Denial Group

Of Herman’s many dubious and outright false assertions about Srebrenica, one of the most contemptible is his attempt to make disappear from history the roughly 8000 Bosnian civilians massacred by Serbian forces. Some of his mystification is couched in slippery deniability, in a half-hearted attempt to deflect the criticism he deserves. But taken together, his comments comprise a clear endeavor at war-crimes denial.  Herman is perturbed that the estimated number of victims has stayed relatively constant around 8000. But this estimate has been documented in detail by several independent sources and has been accepted widely, from the corporate media to such progressive reporters as Amy Goodman of “Democracy Now” (Srebrenica 10th anniversary report, July 11, 2005). Though Herman uses misleading and out-of-date reports to cast doubt on the credibility of the lists of missing, he ignores the detailed documentation of the lists from several sources.

    Bosnjaci.net Attacks on Darko Trifunovic

I am posting this on behalf of Dr. Darko Trifunovic: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

**Here is why Bosnjaci.net an Islamist web site from Bosnia is attacking dr Darko Trifunovic * *

One of Bosnjaci.net’s favorite and honored members is Sakib Mahmuljin http://www.bosnjaci.net/dobri_bosnjani.php?id=130 Sakib is a high-ranking Bosnian White Al Qaeda member, accused of war crimes. . See this: War crimes: “Vozuca case”, six years later: http://www.ex-yupress.com/slobos/slobos11.html.

Also, Izet Nanic, former commander of the 505th Buzim Brigade with the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army of which an integral part was the “Hamze” unit. According to the Bosnian State Court http://bosnianews.blogspot.com/2007/09/witness-claims-that-former-assistant.html :

“The indictment alleges that “Hamze” members arrested, on 5 August 1995, four Serbian aggressor’s soldiers, and killed them on the same day. The Prosecution holds Alic responsible for failing to “investigate and punish” the perpetrators of the killings, as was his duty.”

About War Crimes committed by the ‘Hamze’ special unit within the 5th Corpus of Bosnia and Herzegovina Army: a jihadi from Saudi Arabia, Taufik al Harbi who cut the throat of one Serbian prisoner in the middle of September 1995 in the bordering area with Croatia: http://www.euronews.net/create_html.php?page=detail_info&article=374232&lng=1

Also one of the prominent individuals on Bosnjaci.net is Nezim Halilovic, %u2013 Muderis http://www.bosnjaci.net/dobri_bosnjani.php?id=61.

In the Wal-Mart-sized, architecturally overbearing King Fahd mosque-which opened in 2000 on the outskirts of Sarajevo, built with Saudi money and named for the Saudi monarch-the imam is Nezim Halilovic Muderis, a Bosnian extremist agitator whose antics here I have followed since 1999. Muderis’s Friday sermons, available on Bosnian websites, are replete with incitement to violence in Israel, Kashmir, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and the Philippines. He preaches the same line on the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq as is heard among the acolytes of terrorist leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi. It is, to say the least, bizarre: “In Falluja, according to statements from the U.S. command, spirits have appeared in the form of enormous spiders, weighing about a kilogram, that only attack U.S. soldiers, and the person who is bitten dies within seconds.”

More information about this prominent Wahhabist is here: http://www.islamicpluralism.org/articles/2005a/wahhabisbalkans.htm

Bosnian Muslim War Criminal Protected and Promoted by Bosnjaci.net : Rasim Delic http://www.bosnjaci.net/dobri_bosnjani.php?id=79

According to the indictment, Rasim Delic was aware that the Jihadi members of the Bosnian army had a distinct tendency to commit crimes especially against captured enemy combatants and civilians and that the Kamenica camp was being used as a place in which these crimes could be perpetrated. Reportedly, however, he took no measures whatsoever to stop these acts taking place. http://www.trial-ch.org/en/trial-watch/profile/db/facts/rasim_delic_273.html

    MEDIA RELEASE

    Dr.Darko Trifunovic

For some time now, militant Islamic web portal Bosnjaci.net has been engaged in a propaganda campaign against the Serbian people as a whole, and me in person, with the purpose of preventing my appearance at the 11th Congress of European Police, where I am scheduled to speak about a European strategy for combating terrorism. They object to my existence as a Serb, and to the fact that in all of my speeches I make a clear difference between Islamic fundamentalists/mujahedin and Islam as a world religion.
This web portal fabricates stories and spreads dangerous misinformation. It also engages in spreading religious and racial hatred, (see article at http://www.bosnjaci.net/aktuelnosti.php?id=5449&polje=aktuelno , titled %u201DThe Serbocidal Darko Trifunovic, %u2019expert%u2019 for %u2019Euro-terrorism%u2019, belongs behind bars %u201D). This sort of racism and ethnic hatred is a threat to peace and security in Bosnia-Herzegovina and elsewhere.
People behind this Islamic fundamentalist portal have fabricated an email correspondence which they attribute to me, with me allegedly saying I wished all Muslims had been killed: The language and expressions used in this alleged email correspondence do not resemble my vocabulary at all %u2013 quite the contrary, they sound like broken vernacular of Bosnian Muslim migrs. This is obviously the vilest sort of fabrication, with the purpose to agitate the citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Reputable expertss have identified Bosnjaci.net as a web portal spreading ideas closely related to Al-Qaeda (http://www.terrorfinance.org/the_terror_finance_blog/2008/01/bosnjacinet-att.html); attacks on me are in line with known Al-Qaeda media strategy (http://www.terrorfinance.org/the_terror_finance_blog/2007/12/al-qaeda-media.html). Therefore, this portal and the people associated with it are liable to come under investigation of anti-terrorist law enforcement organizations around the world. Given that this portal also glorifies the mujahedin, Islamic fanatics and war crimes suspects, the FBI has been notified of its operations.
I appeal to all citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina not to believe the lies, fabrications and the ethnic, racial and religious hatred emanating from this web portal..
    Sincerely,
    Dr Darko Trifunovic
