      Taxpayers are now left holding the bag for $1 trillion in debt incurred by capitalists run rampant, brought about largely by a frenzy of deregulation over the past decade. These bailouts are as dramatic as a pandemic of influenza resulting in the Department of Health declaring marshal law, closing schools and restricting travel.

      A federal judge has ordered the Labor Department to share with the public the results of years of toxic substance sampling in American workplaces. Federal officials said Monday they were reviewing the decision. The decision, by U.S. District Judge Mary L. Cooper, came in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by former Labor Department official Adam Finkel, who now is a whistleblower.

    Clinton, Obama, Insurance

    One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: that would be a site you should visit.
