    • On eve of G-8 summit Tensions between US and Russia erupt in mutual recriminations

      Posted by Sandyenglish

In the run-up to this week’s Group of 8 summit of industrialized nations in Germany, tensions between the United States and Russia have led to an extraordinary series of public clashes on issues ranging from a US plan to install interceptor missiles and radar stations in Eastern Europe, to a US and European-backed push for Kosovan independence, to Washington’s arms shipments to Lebanon, to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s crackdown against oppositionist forces within Russia.

'I am plotting a new Russian revolution'

Posted by Jeff from Guardian UK

"We need to use force to change this regime," he said. "It isn't possible to change this regime through democratic means. There can be no change without force, pressure." Asked if he was effectively fomenting a revolution, he said: "You are absolutely correct."

    • The Frame-Up of Vladimir Putin

      Posted by Billbar from Antiwar

The death of Anna Politkovskaya, a Russian journalist and avowed foe of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was the occasion for a veritable orgy of Russia-bashing, one that the Western media and their Russian teachers' pets lingered over with voluptuous abandon. Amid elegies praising Politkovskaya as a veritable saint and valorizing her opposition to the Chechen war were warnings from pundits and government officials alike that Russia – after a few bright years of promising openness – is descending into Slavic darkness. The clear implication of all this is that Politkovskaya's death, if not personally ordered by Putin, was certainly condoned and even celebrated by the Russian authorities.

      Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya murdered

      Posted by Jeff from BoingBoing

Her investigative political journalism was not only writing, it was human rights activism. Anna was writing against the political and military abuse of the Russian army against the Chechen civilians and also rebels. She physically took part in many tragedies on the ground. She was not a Woman in Black but was guided by the same principle to stand against her country' s military, as a "traitor to her own nation" as women pacifists are often considered.

      Putin takes swipe at Cheney

      Posted by Billbar from MSNBC

Cheney, in a May speech in the ex-Soviet republic of Lithuania, accused Russia of cracking down on religious and political rights and of using its energy reserves as “tools of intimidation or blackmail.” “I think the statements of your vice president of this sort are the same as an unsuccessful hunting shot. It’s pretty much the same,” Putin said in an interview with NBC 'Today' show anchor Matt Lauer.

Will Russia get away with it?

    Communists are great !

Don’t you think the fight is perfectly similar with the Korean War in 1951 between China and America ?!  Just a kind of self-protection. Much better than the invaders!

The real guy who needs to stay where they belong is the one who should  GET AWAY FROM IRAQ  right now !!!

Russia, Georgia troops battle on border

I imagine, in a more advanced VR environment, they might animate a different, less stressful outcome.  Like they could animate a brightly colored spray of candy or presents instead of sharpnel and body parts parts strewn about the blast site.  Maybe a little, "atta boy," or "outstanding" followed by canned cheering from a studio audience when a particularly good strike is executed.

This scenario of positively re-enforcing the kill could ease the pain of human slaughter and give a real sense of total accomplishment.  The possibilities are endless.  I wonder if drone pilots get better VA benefits than the rest of the "combat" vets do?

They seem more qualified at civil disobedience than Americans of late.

Cheney's comments about Russia use of natural gas supplies as a coercive tool is on the mark. And Putin's right that Cheney is a jackass.
