      McCain's

      Posted by Shemuses

A big part of politics, aside from the candidates stumping from city to city, are the campaign's television advertisements. In some cases, these advertisements outlast the candidates and the race itself. Usually, the advertisements spotlight the candidates' interaction with the public and the issues of the day. That's why, the latest advertisement by the McCain campaign entitled "God's Children" is a puzzlement and a sad commentary on the state of the Republican Party, not to mention, an offensive piece of footage to all Latinos, whether Republican, Democrat or Independent...

Aboriginal designer calls Miss Universe Canada’s 2008 costume “offensive”

      Posted by Shemuses

Wearing a Cree-inspired, fringed leather bikini encrusted with rhinestones and a feathered war bonnet, the woman representing Canada at the Miss Universe pageant 2008 in Vietnam appeared before more than one billion global TV viewers on July 13. Samantha Tajik, 26, who was born in Iran, grew up in Vancouver, and now lives in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Yesterday, however, one of Canada's foremost aboriginal designers called Tajik's national costume "offensive". Dorothy Grant told the Georgia Straight that sexualizing the war bonnet is tantamount to sexualizing another cultures' spiritual symbol.

McCain: Maybe That’s a Way of Gookifying Them

      Posted by Shemuses

Notwithstanding his hiring and endorsing white supremacists and his support for the rescinding of MLK Day and his fighting for the Confederate flag and so on and so on, the one act of racism that disturbs me most is McCain's use of the racial slur "gook" to refer to Vietnamese persons. After all, I am of East Asian descent, and I've been smeared with the "gook" slur quite a few times in my life. "Gook" is a war term and a term of racial denigration. To "gookify" a group of people is to make them subhuman so that one may more conscionably kill, exploit, maim, or manipulate them. Of course the group of people encouraged to use the racial slur to denigrate the "gooks" are also being manipulated, perhaps to kill kill kill.

      The Obama Man Crush

      Posted by Shemuses

Sure, women swoon, but have you ever noticed that guys, too, seem almost weak-kneed over the senator with mad skills and a million-dollar smile? Why do men as diverse as Colin Powell, Michael Eric Dyson, Andrew Sullivan, Tom Joyner, Ted Kennedy, Bill Richardson, Christopher Hitchens and numerous others, appear to have such a "man crush" on Sen. Obama? The answer: his white-collar masculinity.

    • Bill Clinton Wants Obama to Pay For His Bon Bons and JuJu Bees

At present, it does not appear that Hillary's most rabid supporters are going to get the party meltdown they're seeking. Obama is polling 19 points ahead of McCain with female voters, a margin that wouldn't happen if significant numbers of Hillary's female supporters were planning to vote for McCain in the fall. But Obama still has lingering problems with certain factions of Hillary's support base, notably large-dollar fundraisers.

Another dragging death in Texas raises tensions

I think as Obama continues to do well – we will see more and more crazy stuff perpetrated by 1% of 1% of the craziest of this country.

this happened about 40 miles from my home. . .it’s more proof that racism in this country is just as strong and virulent as ever; it’s merely sublimated.  me, ah’m jes’ the po’ ol’ sonuvashahcroppah. . .but i remember a few things. . .

think about it. . .immigration was no problem, except in california in the early-mid 90’s. . .we laughed it off. . .and then came the big boogeyman:  911.

people got scared, as they always do.  everyone who wasn’t white-and many who werewere targeted.  and the most visible nonwhite population includes hispanic immigrants.  fifteen years ago it was calculated that the southwestincluding texaswould be precominantly hispanic around this time.

since virtually no terrorists have been foundnone that can be proven as terrorists-nonwhites make great scapegoats.  and the good old boy gets to indulge in all his racial fantasies.  911 allowed everyone to indulge their hidden racism.  muslims. . .hispanics. . .blacks. . .

it won’t end for at least another 400 years. . .

How the GOP Will Suppress Minority Votes on November 4—Legally

I would really like to say I’m surprised. Unfortunately the party of Abraham Lincoln has spent the better part of the last 50 years undoing what President Lincoln ultimately gave his life for. Great job guys.

    A former Republican.
