    • Blacks Terrorize Harvard Students

      Posted by Shemuses from Feeds.gawker

Last weekend, on the bucolic Quad at Harvard University—typically, the site of a casual game of Ultimate, or perhaps an afternoon reading of some Shakespearean sonnets before English class—an unusual and, to some, frightening scene was played out. There were people throwing things! And running! And jumping! And most scary of all, every single one of them was black.

Of A Split Mind: Thoughts on Affirmative Action

      Posted by Shemuses

Obama is obviously between a rock and a hard place on that one. There is no right answer - at least, not one that will please a large group of people. I wish I could supply an answer, but I cannot. On one hand, I understand Obama’s sentiments - most of the obstacles I have had in life have resulted from being poor, not being black. The boost I received from programs rooted in affirmative action were predominantly to overcome financial barriers...

In a More Diverse America, A Mostly White Convention

Why are Republican African Americans surprised by this phenomenon?  Do they truly think that the GOP has their interests in mind and that it can relate to their circumstances?  What more proof do we need that the GOP is hostile to the needs of all but the most wealthy Americans, except the record of the last 8 years with the cuts in constitutional rights, the tax benefits for the wealthy and corporations, the record high oil industry profits, a war that was initiatied with false information and no clear plan of action?  I could go on but the evidence is too extensive to record here.  This convention is business as usual for the GOP.  Luckily African Americans have a real alternative this year and I hope they will all flock to the Democratic ticket if they want to see change.

Congress's Apology for Slavery Is a Good Thing—It's Just Not Enough

Agreed. Now that the apology has been made all can be forgiven and everyone should be happy. Lets get on with life.

BTW – Slavery wasn’t "just the evil doings of greedy Southern planters." Slavery was a 5,000 year old institution practiced all over the world (and still is in places.)  Perhaps apologies should be demanded from a few of those places?

Yes, good to know that our Congress is focused on such important issues while they completely ignore stupid things like the cost of energy.

    Obama T-Shirt Sparks Assault, Lawsuit

$69 bucks for a T-Shirt with those words? And she's the one who's suing? This is just stupid.

Well if she bought the shirt she obviously was intending to antagonize people. I don't know what she expected would happen.

States Fail to Offer Voter Registration to Millions of Low-Income Voters

Another rich against the poor propaganda piece. I am poor and I am registered to vote. And I’m in Florida.

If you can’t figure out how to register, you are too stupid to vote.
