Posted by Shemuses
Mexico's favorite monkey-boy, Memin Pinguin, may now find an audience in the U.S. That's because Wal-Mart has decided to carry the reissued comic books series, first released in the 1960s. There's just one problem. Memin Pinguin isn't simply a monkey-boy but referred to in the series as a "Negro."

The Detroit rapper reflects on her music, activism and inspirations. Balancing art and activism is a challenge. Just ask Ilana Weaver, better known to hip-hop fans as Invincible, the Detroit-based emcee who has been rapping for well over a decade. A 2002 XXL Magazine feature lauded her as a talented lyricist and seasoned performer. Jackson regrets vulgar Obama comment
Posted by Shemuses from Politico
Oh nuts! Jesse Jackson apologized today on CNN's "The Situation Room," and later in a press conference, for comments he made last Sunday while in Fox News' Chicago studio, when he didn't realize that a microphone was still on. In the much-hyped video that captured his remark, Jackson is seated next to Dr. Reed Tuckson just before they were to appear live on "Fox & Friends" on Sunday. In barely more than a whisper, Jackson criticizes how Barack Obama has been speaking to the black community, and discusses positions on faith-based issues. At that point, Jackson said he wanted to cut Obama's "nuts out."

Have you heard the good news? If not, let me be the first to tell you. BET has FINALLY gotten the ol' Don Imus treatment. That's right. Some major sponsors have pulled advertisements from BET, due to the gratuitous violence, profanity and obscenity on some of the cable network's programs, according to a report in the Chicago Defender.
Death on a Hospital Floor
Posted by Shemuses
You'd think after Beatrice Vance of Illinois and Edith Isabel Rodriguez of California both died on the ER waiting room floor while hospital staff just looked on, that maybe hospitals would be on red alert to avoid this type of bad publicity-not to mention the loss of human life. But now there is the story of Esmin Green, 49, of New York. She, too, died on the hospital waiting room floor while patients and hospital staff looked on. Surveillance video showed a guard rolling his desk chair around to get a better look as Green writhed in pain, and patients watched unflinchingly from just feet away.
