Half of Virginians question whether 'Macaca' is racist

      Posted by Jeff from Rawstory

A survey conducted among residents of Virginia found that while most disapproved of Republican Senator George Allen calling an Indian-American 'Macaca,' close to half felt it was not a racial slur... Mike Maloy was actually saying the other night that Virginians would view his slur as a positive. Sad.

Violent hate crimes against Hispanics, regardless of their immigration status

      Posted by j1o2n3a4s5

The debate over immigration has been fuel for hate crimes against American Hispanics. Regardless of their citizenship, some Americans have been beaten, burned and even sodomized. Those that take a stand against immigrants will find themselves in the presence of hate and ignorance. Two things that have always caused large amounts of death and destruction. These people want to blame their problems on Mexicans- not unlike how the Germans blamed their problems on Jews. We saw where that led. Are we doomed to repeat history?

    • James Wolcott: Servants' Quarters

Posted by Billbar from james wolcott

No matter what height of prominence a black person reaches, conservatives will always find a way to reduce him or her to low-paid, low-status, low-skilled caricatured servitude. That's their idea of cutting black personalities down to size and putting them in their place. Whatever uniform they wear, it's still a monkey suit in the eyes and mouths of the white-makes-right contingent.

      Posted by j1o2n3a4s5

the brutal slave trade, extermination of the Native Americans, subjugation of the Hispanics, mob lynching of Afro-Americans. In the 1920s, brutal racism became widespread amongst ordinary Americans, naturally groups like the Ku-Klux-Klan flourished throughout the US. Its membership inflated into millions [1], having around 15% of the eligible voting populations. Racism is built on blind prejudice and hate; it produces double standards and gratuitous violence. This is demonstrated by the few examples listed below in relation to the recent war in Lebanon.
