This story touched me. It's about a family seeking refuge in Canada from Ugandan persecution of Idi Amin. Sensing my mother's fear, the immigration agent assured her that this wasn't an interrogation. "It's just that I'm looking at your daughters," she explained, "and I realize that they're all dressed for tropical weather. Madame Manji, have you ever seen snow?" Terrified at the prospect of being booted out, my mother blurted out, "No, but I can't wait to!"

    • Serbs Commit Electoral Fraud in Srebrenica to Legalize Results of Srebrenica Genocide

      Posted by srebrenicagenocideinfo from Srebrenica-genocide.blogspot

Dnevni Avaz daily has called on the Office of the Prosecutor to investigate the case of election fraud in local municipal elections in Srebrenica. On October 5th, large groups of Serbian citizens arrived by busses from Serbia to vote in Srebrenica municipal elections. They used fake LK/OI-4 forms and unverified voting ballots. This is another orchestrated method of electoral fraud aimed at legalizing results of Srebrenica genocide that claimed lives of 10,000 Bosniaks - men, children, and elderly.

      Climate change refugees

      Posted by SoxFirst

Global warming is creating the climate change refugee and that will present a massive security risk for businesses and governments. At least one billion people - almost equivalent to the entire population of India - will be forced from their homes between now and 2050 because of rising seas, droughts and storms.

      The Flight From Iraq

      Posted by Jeff from Feeds.feedburner

At a meeting in mid-April in Geneva, convened by the United Nations high commissioner for refugees, the numbers presented confirmed what had long been suspected: the collapse of Iraq had created a refugee crisis, and that crisis was threatening to precipitate the collapse of the region. The numbers dwarfed anything that the Middle East had seen since the dislocations brought on by the establishment of Israel in 1948. Most of this movement has occurred in the last two years.

      Iraqis 'fleeing rising violence'

Posted by Billbar from BBC News

The number of Iraqis claiming asylum in the West is growing, says the UNHCR. The agency also says the number of internally displaced is growing, with some 365,000 Iraqis uprooted this year. The agency says that last year about 50,000 Iraqis returned from neighbouring countries. This year only 1,000 did. "UNHCR is monitoring the border in Syria, for example," said UNHCR spokesman Ron Redmond. "Our staff [are] seeing about 2,000 people a day coming across, so it's more than 40,000 people a month just into Syria."
