Many Americans Not 'Absolutely Certain' Of God

      Posted by Damianmann

Not everyone who described themselves as Christian or Jewish said that they believed in God. Only 76 percent of Protestants, 64 percent of Catholics, and 30 percent of Jews said they are "absolutely certain" there is a God. However, most Christians who described themselves as "born-again" (93 percent) said they are absolutely certain there is a God.

    • Tired of all the religious garbage? It's time to become an Enlightenist

Posted by Billbar from Sunday Herald

Let’s start with vocabulary. Let’s stop describing these tax-funded establishments as faith schools. They are superstition schools, for that is what they teach. Alongside hard facts, innocent children are hoodwinked into accepting as real the mythology of virgin births, gods who regard women with bare heads as wicked harlots, that Noah’s Ark was real and that Darwin was wrong. It’s clear that, given the rising tide of superstition sweeping our country, no politician will help end this state-funded child abuse, and so it is time to try and fight back.

    • God's gonna get the Bush boys for making fun of him

Posted by Damianmann from Capitol Hill Blue

A new book by a former White House official says President Bush's top political advisors privately ridiculed evangelical supporters as ''nuts'' and ''goofy'' while embracing them in public and using their votes to help win elections. The former official also writes that the White House office of faith-based initiatives, which Bush promoted as a nonpolitical effort to support religious social-service organizations, was told to host preelection events designed to mobilize religious voters who would most likely favor Republican candidates.

Exclusive: Book says Bush just using Christians

      Posted by Jeff from MSNBC

He says some of the nation’s most prominent evangelical leaders were known in the office of presidential political strategist Karl Rove as “the nuts.” “National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as ‘ridiculous,’ ‘out of control,’ and just plain ‘goofy,’” Kuo writes.

      Posted by Jeff from BoingBoing

Salon covers Seattle's Mars Hill church, a church where you can "watch Tarantino movies, drink beer, and live by strict biblical rule." The hipster church embraces pop culture, espouses an end to corporate rule, and simultaneously demands strict gender role separation and adherence to conservative biblical codes of conduct. It's attracting many adherents from the ranks of Seattle's disaffected hipsters who are seeking post-grunge meaning in life

New Christian broadcasting TV special featuring Ann Coulter blames Darwin for Hitler

      Posted by Billbar from Rawstory

"Author and Christian broadcaster Dr. D. James Kennedy connects the dots between Charles Darwin and Adolf Hitler in Darwin’s Deadly Legacy, a groundbreaking inquiry into Darwin’s chilling social impact," announces a press release issued by Florida's Coral Ridge Ministries. "The new television documentary airs nationwide on August 26 and 27 on The Coral Ridge Hour." "To put it simply, no Darwin, no Hitler," says Dr. Kennedy. "Hitler tried to speed up evolution, to help it along, and millions suffered and died in unspeakable ways because of it."
