It's official - Robert "Willie" Pickton is a convicted serial killer and the families of six victims have some justice after yesterday's guilty verdict. Trisha Baptie, citizen correspondent for Orato.com and former colleague of many of the missing and murdered women, has been covering this trial since its beginning and was there when the verdict came in. Here's her reaction, and an interview with CBC Newsworld.

      The Flood Of Yesterday's Testimony

      Posted by Orato

Late yesterday and early today we heard from a young man by the name of Gerald McLaughlin, who lived on the Pickton property for about two years in an old motorhome on the property. I have no other word to describe him but sweet. A young man clearly nervous about being there, softspoken, polite and seemingly vulnerable. In sharing what I am about to in this story, I too am letting myself be very vulnerable. Parts of this story are graphic and possibly disturbing...

      Scott Chubb's Credibility Under Fire

      Posted by Orato

Much to everyone's chagrin we went to court with the knowledge we would be sitting through Day Two of Scott Chubb's cross examination. But things got a little heated. “You can attack me, you can attack my character, but I am not on trial for six counts of murder,” was one of Chubb's very heated replies that flew in the courtroom today.

Member Of The Public Versus Media

To get into the Pickton trial, one needs to jump through a couple of hoops, two of which are getting a pass and going through security. I am standing in line to go through security, waiting for my "public pass." I am not really able to hear the whole conversation, but I am amazed that there is a woman in front of me who would talk to the tan uniforms in such a forthright and argumentative way.

Who Else Is Guilty And Of What?

      Posted by Orato

Ever wonder why Dinah Taylor and Pat Casanova were released from jail after they were picked up in the beginning of this Pickton mess? Regarding Dinah, I've wondered, 'Will they have to pick her up again and bring her to justice?' I am certain that I’d put her away. At the very least, she was living off the avails of a prostitute by pimping girls. The defence's questions are bringing up the question of whether or not people other than Pickton had something to do with the missing women...

I Now Know Who Killed My Friend

      Posted by Orato

It was my first day back in court. Something deep inside told me I needed to go no matter how I felt. I followed my instinct and it turns out I got my question answered...The question that I'd carried deep down inside since the day this trial began. How did my friend Jackie get to the farm and why did she go? I knew she was a little naive when I first met her and I'd told her to "Go home, get away from the streets."

      Looking For A Date?

      Posted by Orato

It's just my personal opinion - he didn't act alone” were the words uttered by a 36-year-old Giselle Ireson in Thursday's session of court. Ms. Ireson, who lived in the Downtown Eastside at various times in her life and supported herself as a sex trade worker, testified that as she was walking past the Patricia Hotel on Hastings Street in the early evening of late 1998, she saw a blue Chevrolet car parked in the lot. She approached the vehicle to see if the occupant was looking for a date...
