Russian Thieves Find Money In Soviet-Era Missile Silo

Posted by Billbar from Moscow News

A team of thieves that broke into an abandoned missile silo not far from the Russian city of Kostroma in search of nonferrous metals was shocked to find the shaft packed with Soviet money bills. The incident would have remained secret, had the wind not blown hundreds of banknotes all over the countryside.

    • Immigration Policies Blamed for Hike in Racism

      Posted by Billbar from Themoscowtimes

Ill-conceived immigration policies are stoking xenophobia and racism, fueling corruption and ignoring the country's growing demographic crisis, rights activists and analysts said. The media are fanning anti-immigrant attitudes and hardening stereotypes, particularly against dark-skinned migrants from the North Caucasus and Central Asia.

      Russia's Gas Crunch

Posted by Billbar from Washington Post

Three months ago the Russian energy giant Gazprom forced Ukraine to pay sharply higher prices for natural gas. Last week Gazprom announced it was tripling gas prices in Belarus and Moldova has been forced to accept a doubling of prices over the next three to four years. The truth is that these price increases are not political. Rather, they reflect worrisome economic and geological facts about Russian gas fields.

    • Putin's Potemkin Russia

      Posted by Billbar from UPI

Reports from Moscow suggest that one of the last independent media outlets in Russia, the business daily Kommersant, is to be bought by the state-controlled Gazprom giant. There are few media voices left that dare to criticize President Vladimir Putin's administration, or to pay serious attention to his political opposition.

Fabricated evidence of Islamic terrorist activities, torture-induce confessions, show trials - none of this can be reported in the Russian press.

U.S. to rely on Russia for manned spaceflight - International Herald Tribune

McCain denounced Russia as a KGB run state and has called to oust Russia from the G8. How will this partnership be affected if he gets voted in?

    Communists are great !

Don’t you think the fight is perfectly similar with the Korean War in 1951 between China and America ?!  Just a kind of self-protection. Much better than the invaders!

The real guy who needs to stay where they belong is the one who should  GET AWAY FROM IRAQ  right now !!!

Russia, Georgia troops battle on border

I imagine, in a more advanced VR environment, they might animate a different, less stressful outcome.  Like they could animate a brightly colored spray of candy or presents instead of sharpnel and body parts parts strewn about the blast site.  Maybe a little, "atta boy," or "outstanding" followed by canned cheering from a studio audience when a particularly good strike is executed.

This scenario of positively re-enforcing the kill could ease the pain of human slaughter and give a real sense of total accomplishment.  The possibilities are endless.  I wonder if drone pilots get better VA benefits than the rest of the "combat" vets do?
