They have appointed a top flight legal team on to the case. Also, there are parallel proceedings from the discovery that BAE had obtained an email containing the groups' privileged legal advice.

Drives me nuts how the Bush administration is able to use the CIA without Senate oversight under the notion that they are operating under the military!

A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.

Hersh has a good track record at accurate off-the-record reporting. The article is an in-depth analysis, not a quick off-the-cuff assertion.
