A Proposal to Ban Spanking Sparks Debate

Posted by Jeff from New York Times

I think this is a fascinating and important topic. I promise to blog more about this soon: The governor said that when disciplining his four children, he and his wife, Maria Shriver, declined to spank. “I think any time we try to pass laws that say you’ve got to protect the kids, it’s, in general, always good,” he added.

    • Calif. Governor Calls for Universal Health Coverage

Posted by Jeff from New York Times

Wow, maybe breaking that leg and going through surgery gave him some empathy: "Schwarzenegger is betting that his plan will save $10 billion a year by cutting health care costs. He says the savings would offset the new fees he is asking doctors and hospitals to pay -- 4 percent of revenue for hospitals and 2 percent for doctors."

Scientist idea leads to Calif. bill to align Electoral College with Popular Vote

Posted by Jeff from New York Times

The first fruit of his effort, a bill approved by the California legislature that would allocate the state’s 55 electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, sits on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s desk. The governor has to decide by Sept. 30 whether to sign it, a decision that may well determine whether Dr. Koza’s scheme takes flight or becomes another relic in the history of efforts to kill the Electoral College.

Calif. Governor Calls for Universal Health Coverage

Univeral health care is going to be the issue of the 2008 Presidential Campaign and the issue of the 2010 congressional elections. First, what do you promise to do? And then what did you deliver?

It’s a good idea, despite the smoke Prof. Hardaway is throwing up. If the Gropenator signs it, other western states may sign up.
