      GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. - Police - or at least K-9 units - now can go sniffing around outside your house even without a warrant.

      A recent court ruling said police don't need a search warrant to take drug-sniffing dogs to the front door of homes, as long as they have a tip there are illegal drugs there.

One of the key metrics of a major portal is stickiness--the number of applications used per member and time spent on the site. Communications services, such as e-mail, instant messaging, group chat, and forums, have proven to be very sticky.

      Facebook calls these pages "public search listings" -- basically it means that someone who isn't a member of Facebook can now see a small bit of Facebook members' pages. And not only can people do this: So too can Google, Yahoo, and other search engines. Soon, what you do on Facebook will end up on Google.

    • Microsoft to set time limit for storing data on Web searches

      Microsoft is announcing changes to its privacy policy Monday that set a time limit on how long the company will retain data about customer queries through its search engine. The policy, seen as an attempt to distinguish itself from Google, also allows people to opt out of targeted ads by third-party advertisers using Microsoft's Windows Live service.

      Yahoo’s song lyrics, in contrast, are supposed to be the official versions. Under the licensing agreement, Yahoo will share with copyright holders the revenue from the ads that will be displayed alongside the lyrics. The database and licensing deals were cobbled together over the past two years by Gracenote, a digital media management specialist.
