"Seattle may be leading the way and taking the baton from the state of California, which has been very reluctant to put any public money into facilities over the last decade," said David Carter, director of University of Southern California's Sports Business Institute. "It's one thing to protect our public investments -- and it's another to insure it."

Seattle's new slogan has some residents asking: Metronatural ... say WA?

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Post-Intelligencer

More pathetic Mayor Nickels sponsored stuff: "There seems to be some conflict between claiming natural beauty and having a screaming highway right through the heart of the most beautiful part of the city," said John Raffetto, a 37-year-old tech consultant in Pioneer Square. "Metronatural? They ought to put an asterisk after it and fine print that reads, 'Except for a 20-block area between First Avenue and the waterfront.' "

Seattle Mayor firm: No new viaduct

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Times

Sounds like we're going to have a fight that ends up in nothing happening before an earthquake knocks it down. But at least we'll end up with an open waterfront - that's my preference anyway.

      Voters say rebuild the viaduct

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Times

Just 25 percent of voters favor a tunnel through town, while 51 percent want a new viaduct built. About one-quarter of those polled by Elway Research were either undecided or wanted to tear down the viaduct and route traffic onto surface streets.

Several lanes closed on Aurora bridge due to possible suicide attempt

Apparently, the man jumped or fell to his death a short time ago.

Local Buses overflow, squeezing riders and transit in King, Snohomish counties

I’ve defnitely seen the increase in ridership on my own commute—#2 bus from the Central District, heading downtown. At peak commuter hours, the bus is often overflowing. It’s rough for my situation, because I’m trying to connect with ferries to Bainbridge on a commute schedule that takes 1.5 hrs mininum, door-to-door.  Full buses mean more frequent stops and more time spent at each stop as people struggle to reach the doors—resulting in schedule delays. I hope that more buses and/or more frequent buses, are in store for downtown commuter routes.

Nickels may be a community leading green mayor but he’s also a developer’s mayor and paul allen’s mayor and a do-little mayor on transit.

Seattle Mayor and Council Think $1,115 a Month for Rent is Affordable Housing

I was motivated to write to May Nickels in response to this.  Here’s what I wrote to him:

"I do not believe $1115 in rent a month is "Affordable housing."

The fact that there are many well to do business people in Seattle should not put a shadow over the Childcare professionals, construction workers, educators, and Administrative Assistants who make less than 40K a year.  If they had to pay $1115 a month it would most certainly be well over 30% of their income.

Are you trying to turn Seattle into an elitist community, or what?"

If you feel the same way, you should email important officials too.
