      The small group of protesters, backed for the first time by a large U.S. animal protection group, want to stop the shark-hunting tournament, one of the largest in the United States where the winner can take home more than $400,000 in prize money and from bets placed among fishermen.

      Fresh Bait

      I love a good dramatic run into the ocean, Pam-Anderson-Baywatch style. But ever since I watched “Jaws,” I swim out into the ocean and immediately begin to visualize my own legs dangling around beneath the surface, fresh bait for the lurking Great Whites. I never really saw myself as a person who would thrive off aquatic adventures. But wonders never cease.

      "We take advantage of people's morbid curiosity about great white sharks to get the word out that these animals are the victims, not the villains, of the sea," said Michael Sutton, who directs the aquarium's Center for the Future of the Oceans. "The white shark is the most protected shark species in the world, but they're still killing them left and right in Mexico and other places."
