      A Time For Mutiny?

      Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from Informationclearinghouse.

Premise one: the Uniform Code of Military Justice contains a clause that requires any soldier or officer to disobey any order that is in violation of international law. Premise two: the invasion and occupation of Iraq by the U.S. and its ‘coalition’ ally forces has been declared illegal under international law by the United Nations. Premise three: the precedent established by the Nuremberg Trials demonstrates that “just following orders” is not sufficient to absolve one of guilt and complicity. Conclusion? You do the math.

      The Rockies Pitch Dogmatic Theocracy

Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from The Nation

the Colorado Rockies went public with the news that the organization has been explicitly looking for players with "character." And according to the Tribe of Coors, "character" means accepting Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior. "We're nervous, to be honest with you," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "It's the first time we ever talked about these issues publicly. The last thing we want to do is offend anyone because of our beliefs." When people are nervous that they will offend you with their beliefs, it's usually because their beliefs are offensive.

Ancient Scroll May Yield Religious Secrets

Posted by Billbar from Live Science

The scroll contains a philosophical treatise on a lost poem describing the birth of the gods and other beliefs focusing on Orpheus, the mythical musician who visited the underworld to reclaim his dead love and enjoyed a strong cult following in the ancient world. The Orpheus cult raised the notion of a single creator god -- as opposed to the multitude of deities the ancient Greeks believed in -- and influenced later monotheistic faiths.

    • Japan is proud home of Christ's tomb

Posted by Billbar from Times Online

In a paddy-lined valley in the far north of Japan is a municipal signpost inscribed: “Tomb of Christ: next left.” For two millennia the farming village of Shingo claims to have protected a tradition that Jesus spent most of his life in Japan.

    • Intelligent design a difficult foe

Posted by Billbar from Toronto Star

One out of every three Americans thinks evolution is "definitely false;" only about one out of seven is convinced it's true. In a ranking of 34 countries whose adults accept evolution, the United States stands 33rd. (Turkey is 34th.) Perhaps the most extraordinary claim made by Jon Miller is that the United States is the only country in the world where a political party wants ID taught in schools.

    The Cult of Chris McCandless

I just watched this film and I am haunted. Although I knew about  Chris I had no idea that his journey killed him. I will forever remember him and I am better for knowing that he was bold and brave enough to do what he needed to do.

I am also very sad that he only found out to late that there is nothing without the company of others.

    His life will be remembered.

If anyone knows an email address for his family I would love to convey my respects(after all these years)

    Vitter was a repeat customer

Vitter was a repeat customer and will continue his illegal and immoral activity as long as he can go to his priest and be forgiven. He and his wife seem to feel that they deserve forgiveness from the American people but in the eyes of many, the hypocrisy is worse than the sin itself. We are a broadminded and forgiving nation, but when looking back on the self righteous attitudes of he and he wife during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandel, most of us feel no pity for these two.
