    • The Righteousness of Blasphemy

      Posted by Billbar

What's been missing has been an acknowledgment that blasphemy isn't just something that must be tolerated. It's something that possesses a special political value of its own. Blasphemy, in short, is a good thing. It's something admirable, noble, and, yes, even respectable. Why have we forgotten this?

    • Episcopal Newspaper Exposes Rightwing Agencies

      Posted by Billbar from Talk2Action

The expose, which demonstrates the unambiguous motives of rightwing activists to foment a permanent schism in the Episcopal Church in the U.S. and in the world Anglican Communion, comes in the run-up to the American church's annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio in June.

    • The failures of British philosophy

      Posted by Billbar from commentisfree.guardian.co.uk

These Americans now embody Kant's hope for independent-minded thinking about society in its various states. It seems there is little prospect that such ambition will prosper in modern British faculties of philosophy. Our contemporary escape from serious ideas, our flight into the arms of irony and satire, leaves us all the poorer.

    • What is God for?

      Posted by Billbar from commentisfree.guardian.co.uk

.So if even the best arguments for religion are found wanting, we're inevitably left asking what is God for? To those of us who reject faith, the idea that without God we are incapable of behaving morally is the most offensive and patronising myth peddled by religion.

    The Cult of Chris McCandless

I just watched this film and I am haunted. Although I knew about  Chris I had no idea that his journey killed him. I will forever remember him and I am better for knowing that he was bold and brave enough to do what he needed to do.

I am also very sad that he only found out to late that there is nothing without the company of others.

    His life will be remembered.

If anyone knows an email address for his family I would love to convey my respects(after all these years)

    Vitter was a repeat customer

Vitter was a repeat customer and will continue his illegal and immoral activity as long as he can go to his priest and be forgiven. He and his wife seem to feel that they deserve forgiveness from the American people but in the eyes of many, the hypocrisy is worse than the sin itself. We are a broadminded and forgiving nation, but when looking back on the self righteous attitudes of he and he wife during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandel, most of us feel no pity for these two.
