Music Review: Shahram & Hafez Nazeri The Passion Of Rumi

Posted by Jeff from Blog Critics

What's amazing is that there has actually been any sort of connection established that establishes even the tiniest beachhead of understanding amidst all this mutual recrimination. In the last few years there has been a growing fascination among people in the West for the poetry of the Persian Sufi mystic Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Balkhi Rumi, most commonly referred simply as Rumi. With modern Iran being home to the land once known as Persia it is only fitting that Iranian musicians have created a mu

    • Who Would Muslims Want as the Next American President?

      Posted by Shemuses

So of the candidates, who are most favorable on issues of concern to American Muslims? Clearly, all the Democrats have much better views on domestic civil liberties and on the role of US foreign policy than the current administration. There really isn’t that much to choose among the top three Democrats, Clinton, Obama, and Edwards. Obama may attract some affinity support from Muslims, as his grandfather was a Kenyan Muslim. On the other hand, one of Clinton’s most important aides is a...

    • How many Muslim women leaders can you name?

      Posted by Shemuses

The Muslim world's first female leader? Really? Are they serious? Maybe the first democratically elected prime minister of a modern nation-state that is majority Muslim, but to make the jump to say the first leader in the entire history of the 'Muslim world' is misleading and incorrect methinks.

    • Muslim Americans Feel Snubbed in Presidential Race

      Posted by Shemuses

While an unholy amount of campaigning has been in the form of Godtalk -- former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee talking about how much he loves Jesus, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney swearing there's nothing wrong with being Mormon and Sen. Barack Obama reminding potential voters that he's not Muslim -- Afshan feels like the greatest effort candidates are making with Muslim Americans like her is to distance themselves.

    The Cult of Chris McCandless

I just watched this film and I am haunted. Although I knew about  Chris I had no idea that his journey killed him. I will forever remember him and I am better for knowing that he was bold and brave enough to do what he needed to do.

I am also very sad that he only found out to late that there is nothing without the company of others.

    His life will be remembered.

If anyone knows an email address for his family I would love to convey my respects(after all these years)

    Vitter was a repeat customer

Vitter was a repeat customer and will continue his illegal and immoral activity as long as he can go to his priest and be forgiven. He and his wife seem to feel that they deserve forgiveness from the American people but in the eyes of many, the hypocrisy is worse than the sin itself. We are a broadminded and forgiving nation, but when looking back on the self righteous attitudes of he and he wife during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandel, most of us feel no pity for these two.
