Stevens Trailing By 3 Votes In Alaska Senate Race

Posted by Jeff from Huffington Post

Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, a titan of Alaska politics convicted of felony charges last month, fell behind by three votes Wednesday as the count resumed in his re-election bid. Democrat Mark Begich, the two-term mayor of Anchorage, began Wednesday down more than 3,200 votes but closed the gap as officials resumed counting early and absentee ballots. The tally was 125,019 to 125,016.

The Mystery of the Missing Alaskan Voters - ProPublica

      Posted by Jeff from Feeds.propublica

Lesser blames Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, Stevens and Young for turning off independent voters that would otherwise have gone to the polls for them. But David Dittman, whose Anchorage-based polling group Dittman Research is used by Republicans, says it was more likely the Democratic-leaning voters who stayed home. Dittman attributes the low turnout to the expectation that Begich and Berkowitz would win handily and the news coverage showing long lines. "They believed reports of long lines and long waits, and the need to bring a book," said Dittman. "And they thought, why endure the discomfort?"

Shannyn Moore: Stolen Election from Alaska?

Posted by Jeff from Huffington Post

Four years ago, 313,592 out of 474,740 registered voters in Alaska participated in the election-a 66% turnout. Taking into account 49,000 outstanding ballots, on Tuesday 272,633 out of 495,731 registered Alaskans showed up at the polls; a turnout of 54.9%. That's a decrease of more than 11% in voter turnout even though passions ran high for and against Barack Obama, as well as for and against Sarah Palin! This year, early voters set a new record. As of last Thursday, with 4 days left to vote early, 15,000 Alaskans showed up-shattering the old record set in 2004 by 28%! The inconsistencies go on... Something is stinky up North and it's not the rotting Salmon.

    • Cheney's Link to Sen. Ted Stevens Corruption Trial

      Posted by Jeff from Newsweek

Two days later, Cheney wrote a letter to the Alaska Legislature urging members to "promptly enact" a bill to build the pipeline. The letter was considered unusual because the White House rarely contacts state lawmakers about pending legislative matters. It also angered state Democrats, who accused Cheney of pushing oil-company interests. The former executive director of Cheney's energy task force had gone to work as a lobbyist for British Petroleum, one of three firms slated to build the pipeline. Stevens confirmed to NEWSWEEK last week that he asked Cheney to write the letter.

Sen. Stevens is 'the secret senator'

      Posted by Billbar from CNN

"This hold was a secret," Sen. Coburn's spokesman John Hart said. "His office has ignored media and bloggers' calls about this issue for weeks. We had to ask Stevens if he was the hold. His staff has still not met with us." "Senator Stevens sits on the committee where this bill, [which would require the government to publish online a database of federal spending,] was considered and never raised any objections because he skipped the hearings," Hart said. "His specific concerns were addressed at the hearings he skipped, and his office has yet to meet with us to discuss his concerns despite repeated requests." Note: Coburn tried to block funds for Stevens' "bridge to nowhere" last year and was heavily denounced by Stevens on the Senate floor.

      "masked" Bill-blocker Reveals Self

      Posted by Billbar from Tpmmuckraker

A spokesman for Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) just confirmed his boss was the man behind the secret hold on the spending database bill, which has captivated a segment of the political blogging community in recent days. The bill, introduced by Sens. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Tom Coburn (R-OK), would create a public, searchable database of all federal grants and contracts.

The missing votes could have been submitted for Ron Paul. Maybe even as Governor of Alaska!

Maybe Alaska voters were afraid if they voted against the Governor she’d retaliate against them.  And maybe the missing votes were for Obama…

I don’t believe Obama stole caucuses – it appeared he was far better organized and had almost unlimited funds.

Should they point out he and his backers bought the election I might agree.

On a side note – Of course had the other candidate been able to remember his name half of the time that might have made some kind of difference.

Obama didnt steal caucuses … he was better organized and had more strident suppoters … he started as a long-shot candidate with little money

its amazing how bitter some of the Clintonites are … like they NEVER practiced hard-ball dirty politics?  they practically invented it, and passed the gameplan on to Karl Rove
