Tibetan Youth Challenge Beijing -- and Dalai Lama

Posted by Jeff from Wall Street Journal

A new generation of impatient activists is vying to seize control of the Tibetan freedom movement from the Dalai Lama. Tsewang Rigzin, president of the 30,000-member Tibetan Youth Congress, has a clear goal: Tibet's independence from China. To achieve it, the group has staged a march to Tibet from this north Indian Himalayan town, called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics, supported hunger strikes and demonstrated outside China's diplomatic missions around the world.

Hundreds of monks protest in Tibet

Posted by Jeff from Guardian UK

Hundreds of Tibetan monks have taken to the streets of Lhasa in the biggest protest against communist rule in almost two decades, it emerged today. The show of defiance - which took place on the anniversary of a failed anti-Chinese uprising in 1959 - raised tensions in the Himalayan region, as the world spotlight shifts to Beijing's often harsh rule ahead of the Olympics.

Steve Weissman: Tibet and the Games Nations Play

What can I say about it? To criticise it? No. Fact is always simple. It’s man who has some kind of motive that make it complexed. As a chinese, I have experienced a lot for more than 20 years, and I do know something fo the the government’s operation. But as for Tibet, today I do not want talk of my opinion about. I know someone will say back to me that it si because I am a Chinese that to say good of my own county. However, it will be much better than to say evil of other countries without any effort to find what it is. I just want someone to try to get to China and Tibet to understand what has happened there. Just as I said, say after you have know the truth. Do not just fly the bubble from others’ mouth.

We Chinese don’t know what really happened there, so please send more pictures. Government closed all the news out to other provinces.

You should be responsible for what you wrote. We need more detailed information from there, thank you.
