      "We all think about oil in our cars, but very few of us really consider the fact that every little piece of manmade equipment around you is oil-based, and surfing's no different," said Mauro, who's seen the price of some surfboards double to $750 or higher. "The price of a surfboard, it used to be something where it was pretty digestible. Now, it's like, whoa, OK, I've got to put some serious thought into this."

      If you are enroute to or from somewhere give this a read before you have something to eat. With the increasing cost of fuel adding surcharges to airline tickets maybe we'll see an even better antidote to jet lag - keeping your feet planted firmly on the ground.

      Flights in the U.S. were late more than 26 percent of the time last year, a slightly better performance than in 2000, when airlines were tardy 27.4 percent of the time. The federal government began collecting airlines on-time data in 1995.
