      Supreme Court stays Georgia execution

      Posted by Jeff from MSNBC

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday gave a reprieve to a Georgia inmate less than two hours before he was scheduled to be executed for killing an off-duty police officer in 1989. Troy Davis, 39, had been slated to be put to death at 7 p.m. EDT. The stay will remain in effect while the court considers Davis' appeal.
