      House members seek cost-of-living raise

Posted by theangryindian from Yahoo News!

WASHINGTON - Despite low approval ratings and hard feelings from last year's elections, Democrats and Republicans in the House are reaching out for an approximately $4,400 pay raise that would increase their salaries to almost $170,000. The cost-of-living raise endorsed Wednesday evening gets lawmakers back on track for automatic pay raises after a fight between the parties last year and again in January killed the pay increase due this year. That was the first interruption of

Tainted toothpaste found in US prisons

Posted by theangryindian from Yahoo News!

ATLANTA - Thousands of tubes of contaminated Chinese-made toothpaste were shipped to state prisons and mental hospitals in Georgia, officials said Thursday, a sign that U.S. distribution of the tainted products was wider than initially thought. Officials with the state prison system and with the agencies that run mental hospitals and juvenile detention centers said they knew of no health problems stemming from the Chinese products. They said the toothpaste contaminated with

      White House asserts executive privilege

Posted by theangryindian from Yahoo News!

WASHINGTON - President Bush, moving toward a constitutional showdown with Congress, asserted executive privilege Thursday and rejected lawmakers' demands for documents that could shed light on the firings of federal prosecutors. • Charge reduced in 'Jena 6' case | Chicago Tribune

Posted by theangryindian from Chicago Tribune

HOUSTON -- The district attorney prosecuting a racially charged beating case in the small Louisiana town of Jena abruptly reduced attempted-murder charges Monday against a black high school student accused of attacking a white student, drawing cautious praise from civil rights leaders who contend the charges were excessive and part of a pattern of uneven justice in the town. Mychal Bell, 16, a former Jena High School football star, and five other black students had been facing the potential o

McCain denounced Russia as a KGB run state and has called to oust Russia from the G8. How will this partnership be affected if he gets voted in?

Mercenary Outfit Send Mass Email Offering Positions in the Wake of Gustav

One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: http://www.gustav-insurance-claim-denials.com/ that would be a site you should visit.
