    • A Presidency Worth Celebrating

      Posted by okami

Presidents Day: It's become so commercialized. But should we celebrate something other than 20 percent markdowns on clothes and furniture? However much Americans may revile individual presidents, many of us believe that the presidency itself gives us much to be thankful for.

    • DoD Watchers Mull the Next President

      Posted by okami from Military

Kansas City Star | By Scott Canon | February 20, 2008 Truman had MacArthur. Kennedy stumbled into the Bay of Pigs. George W. Bush returned the force of nature that is Donald Rumsfeld to the Pentagon. Whoever becomes the next commander in chief will wade into the sometimes uneasy world where admirals and generals cross paths, and sometimes swords, with presidents.

      Terrorism 2.0

      Posted by okami from Spacewar

Terrorism and wars of the future won't be fought outdoors but from the comfort of our own homes, behind our computer screens. With cyberattacks on the rise and gaining in destructive capability, the threat to the international community is beyond current regulations and defense mechanisms, a panel of experts said last week.

    • Rigged Trials at Guantanamo

Posted by okami from Truth Out

The litany of complaints about the legal treatment of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay is long, disturbing and by now familiar. McCain denounced Russia as a KGB run state and has called to oust Russia from the G8. How will this partnership be affected if he gets voted in?

Mercenary Outfit Send Mass Email Offering Positions in the Wake of Gustav

One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: http://www.gustav-insurance-claim-denials.com/ that would be a site you should visit.
