Posted by Shemuses from The Tyee

    • B.C. ranks high in home (un)affordability survey

      Posted by Shemuses from CBC

A new housing survey contains some bad news for British Columbia residents who dream of owning their own home in the near future. The International Housing Affordability Survey, which compared 227 housing markets around the world, says B.C. has three of the most unaffordable housing markets in the world. They include Kelowna, Vancouver, and Victoria, which retain the dubious distinction of ranking in the top 25 of the globe's most severely unaffordable markets.

The City of Vancouver is looking to create a wireless broadband network throughout the downtown core. On Tuesday, the city issued a request for "expressions of interest" from organizations willing to build and finance the internet network on the provincial website BC Bid, where government contracts are posted. If approved, the pilot project would cover 2.3 square kilometres of downtown Vancouver.

    • Banish the drive-thru burger?

      Posted by Shemuses from CBC

"What I am suggesting is that we need to look at things through an environmental lens when we look at policy development and how we, as a society, expand and grow," said Schechter. He said he wants to ban the drive-thru option for two reasons: they attract a lot of late-night traffic and noise, and they are a constant source of idling cars. He argued transportation accounts for more than a third of greenhouse gas emissions in North Vancouver.

    • globeandmail.com: Gangs using armoured cars in Vancouver

Posted by Shemuses from Globe and Mail

Police in Metro Vancouver have seized another armoured car they say is linked to gangs. West Vancouver Police say the seizure happened last Friday at a routine traffic stop when officers found a vehicle equipped with bullet resistant windows and ballistic armour. The vehicle was towed away because the alterations left it in violation of the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act.

    • Blankets given to Vancouver homeless offer legal advice

      Posted by Shemuses from CBC

Volunteers in Vancouver are giving the city's homeless a little warmth, and legal information, this holiday season. Starting Tuesday afternoon, activists began handing out 500 water-proof, high-tech blankets to people in the low-income Downtown Eastside. Printed inside every blanket is an explanation of the rights and protections homeless people have under the law in Vancouver.

    The Culture of Meat

A humanity that would domesticate is not healthy.  Exploitation and slavery come to mind, as well as torture.  Given all the information available about the harms of animal products on the human body I am flabbergasted that people accept this ‘meat washing’.

    incorrect overdose of simple proteins

no animal that eats meat naturally has to cook it

    intestine inflammation

    reduced energy and fatigue

Maybe because I have never eaten it and observed the effects on others that I take this no intentional harm abuse or consumption of life stance.  good book: Eternal Treblinka

I suggest allowing drive-thrus, but paving them in such a way that only cyclists could use ‘em.

    Am I serious? Probably not… ;)
