    • Slashdot _ Analysts Split Over Vista Launch Date

      Posted by Jeff from Chineseinvancouver.blogspot

A 'ZDNet' report details comments by analysts on the upcoming release of Microsoft's newest operating system. Vista is currently scheduled to be released to businesses next month, and to consumers in January of next year. Not everyone on the sidelines agrees that the company will make that deadline, though. Reservations seem mostly to center around legal and political issues, rather than any concrete technical problems.

Stock price stagnant for five years. Vista delayed. Release the cash to the execs: Microsoft's top 900 leaders got almost $317 million in company stock Thursday, the first installment in a compensation plan meant to reward them for the company's performance during the past three years. The awards are going to the most senior 1.3 percent of the company, who will share in 37 million shares in the coming three years.

    • Windows Vista Beta 2 features bugs and blue screen

      Posted by Jeff from Appleinsider

"I have been testing Microsoft operating systems since Windows 95, and this is the buggiest OS I've seen this late in development," said Joe Wilcox, an analyst with Jupiter Research. "Look at the older operating systems, and by Beta 2 there is a stable foundation on which the [independent software vendors] can build."

Engadge Web blogs the WWDC Steve Jobs keynote

      Posted by Jeff from Engadget

Leopard destroys Vista. 64-bit top to bottom, Corfe animation, Universal access, Enhanced parental controls, iCal is going multiuser, Enhanced mail, Enhanced spotlight - network capable (Vista cut this), Dashboard Web Clip and Dashcode. Spaces a whole new way of working with our Macs (my favorite). And of course, Time Machine (super backup). Windows is dead. Buy a Mac.

I still think the amount of memory and power you need will rule out the upgrade for many existing PC owners. I tell all my friends to buy Macs now.
