50% of nations communities switching to new water disinfectant

      Posted by Billbar from Rawstory

When plumbing manufactures use pipes containing lead alloys, which are cheaper than most other alloys, the pipes can corrode and react with a new water disinfectant, chloramine. Chloramine reacts with the pipes and lead leaches into household water. "It's of quite a significant concern," Marc Edwards, the Charles Lunsford Professor of Civil Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, said of communities switching to chloramine. "The train is already going down the tracks. It's not even possible to have a discussion at this point. There is no slowing the train down."

If there is farming in southwest Utah (WHICH IS A DESERT) then I am sure there are other equally arid places being farmed. And thus, using all that water to grow stuff in a desert. Sorry to say that we just might have to make some tough choices, eh?
