  FON, a Spanish start-up on an ambitious crusade to turn home Wi-Fi connections into wireless "hotspots" for nearby users, is set to unveil on Monday a plan to hand out 1 million wireless routers for just $5 apiece. But FON could face legal battles with telephone and cable TV carriers who bar users from sharing Web access they supply.

  "Bill" members, named after Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates, will charge for access to their hotspot. FON will get some of that revenue, and share it with Internet service providers, or ISPs.

  "... by making high-speed Internet as accessible as water or electricity ..." Nice thought. I'd rather go without water than my DSL. Showers be damned.
