  Cnet is reporting that Dell will shortly announce a partnership with Canonical to offer Ubuntu pre-loaded on certain consumer-oriented desktops and notebooks. A system call is an opportunity to address memory. A hacker investigates each memory access to see if it is vulnerable to a buffer overflow attack.

  The blogger makes this sound like a serious attack and that it's spread to the CDC Web site. It's funny in contrast to Bill Gates' interview on Slashdot that talked up how secure Windows is vs. the Mac.

  I would focus on shipping Vista, but that's just me: "The project, dubbed "immortal computing," would let people store digital information in physical artifacts and other forms to be preserved and revealed to future generations, and maybe even to future civilizations."

I still think the amount of memory and power you need will rule out the upgrade for many existing PC owners. I tell all my friends to buy Macs now.
