      More than 'drug addicted prostitutes'

Posted by Shemuses from Globe and Mail

They were six women with little in common except a rapacious addiction to drugs. Their final years were spent on the chaotic streets of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, a notorious enclave of poverty, flagrant drug abuse and prostitution.

    • Liberia: Government, Women's Groups Decry Post-War Sexual Violence

Posted by Shemuses from All Africa

Rising levels of rape and sexual exploitation of women and teenage girls in Liberia have sparked concern by both the government and women's rights groups. Despite a peace agreement in 2003 that ended the particularly brutal 14-year civil war, during which fighters sexually assaulted girls and women and sometimes used them as "sex slaves", these...

HHS Moves to Define Contraception as Abortion

The media keeps referring to Bush as a ‘Lame Duck President’, but this is just the sort of damage to freedom that people can expect from the Bush/Cheney White House before a new president is sworn into office in January.  They are expecting us to let down our guard.

I think we can expect an acceleration of unfathomable, unreasonable, unstomachable executive orders and administrative rulings in the final days of the Bush administration.

The Democratic Congress, elected to a majority in ‘06 to end the Iraq war, has taken a huge bet in not impeaching and not confronting Bush and the GOP agenda in order to keep approval numbers low enough for a sweep in November. It’s a huge doubling down – gambling with nothing less than our democracy.

Outrage brews as Ottawa set to honour Morgentaler

there are several differences between a medical doctor who has not broken the law and a convicted pedophile serial killer. suggesting said convicted felon be freed?

many canadians, the majority in fact are proud that our country enables women access to essential healthcare. these services save lives, often lives of the most vulnerable women in our society. there is a viable and empathetic middle way that combines health care, education, abstinence, birth control, and abortion. we need to look beyond our idealogy and meet the real needs of families in our communities.

Calling Michelle Obama An Angry Black Woman Makes Black Women Angry

Hi A.R.G., do you want to provide some facts e.g. perhaps some sourced quotes from Michelle Obama indicating anger?

Could you provide a link to a sourced article indicating Michelle Obama’s endorsement of Dr. Cone’s views on this topic?

Here is a link to Wikipedia for more context on Dr. Cone.

I rated this inaccurate, it seems to be repeating a right wing talking point – as with a lot of the other emails I’ve received from you.

Calling Michelle Obama An Angry Black Woman Makes Black Women Angry

Obama’s wife is an angry woman. She was angry way before she became a member of The Trinity United  Church of Christ. Rev. Jeremiah Wright perfected her anger even more with his unspiritual teaching of Black Liberation Theology. She is a black person who suffers with a sin problem called bigotry.

Read  Dr.James Cone ’s own words.—-"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community — Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love. Either God is for black people in their fight for liberation and against the white oppressors, or he is not."
