Disillusioned with the woman candidate, I found my heroine in a children's book. During this heated campaign for the Democratic nomination, I fell in love with a children's book by Kelly DePucchio called Grace for President. The uber-talented illustrator Leuyen Pham has cast Grace as a beautiful brown-skinned elementary school girl with the brains and moxie to run for president of her school.

Why Obama's wife makes me love him more. Yes, yes, I know damn well, in my higher self, that there are better reasons for liking Barack. His cleareyed intelligence, for one thing. His broad and nonparochial perspective of the world. His preparation, his education, his politics. I like that Obama forwent a lucrative career in corporate America to work with the folks in Chicago. I even like the fact that the man can write, and I mean write, although as a writer who struggles daily to do the work, I kind of hate that too: this talented dabbler, this massively successful dilettante.

College-age women often come to Professor Gail Dines in tears after she lectures about how popular culture has become poisoned with a hyper sexuality that demands women offer themselves to any man who asks. The young women feel isolated and alone because they refuse to degrade themselves in exchange for male companionship, said the professor of sociology and women's studies at Wheelock College in Boston and founder of the Stop Porn Culture movement.
