Kingsnorth: a camp of uncritical conformity

      Posted by Kaerast from Spiked

Environmental activists have built a climate camp near a power station in Kingsnorth, south-east England, to protest against plans for a new coal-fired plant. Yet Britain's energy infrastructure is heading rapidly for obsolescence, and the British authorities need to start building coal-fired plants now if we are to avoid a shortfall in energy supply. That is of little concern to the climate campers, however - they would positively embrace a fall in energy supply, and the austerity that would follow.

Big day set for big-bang machine

      Posted by Jeff from cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com

If the schedule holds, the collider on the French-Swiss border will make a splash at 9 a.m. local time (3 a.m. ET) Sept. 10, a week after a federal judge in Hawaii begins hearing a motion to dismiss a civil lawsuit claiming that the device could destroy the world. Over the past few months, scientists at CERN (and the federal government) have laid out their case that a globe-gobbling catastrophe could never happen. Nevertheless, the court proceedings could provide a sideshow for the main event. Or they could be finished up by that time.

2 Dutch climbers rescued from K-2

      Posted by Jeff from MSNBC

    • The IOC is Now Officially an Accomplice to the Communists in China

      Posted by robertvance

Beijing, which has constantly complained about its precious Games being politicized, is itself politicizing the Olympics every time it censors a website. By not allowing reporters to access sites like Amnesty International or the Chinese version of the BBC, the Chinese government is attempting to shield itself from international criticism and arbitrarily filter out political viewpoints that it deems harmful to its image. This action of censoring the Internet in Beijing is a powerful political statement...

    • Fidel Castro still a force, two years out of power

Posted by Shemuses from Globe and Mail

The era of Fidel Castro appeared to be ending July 30, 2006, when the ailing leader handed over power to his brother Raul Castro. But two years later, he remains a force to be reckoned with in Cuba and to some degree on the international scene. Although he no longer rules the Caribbean island as he did for almost 50 years, the 81-year-old still has his brother's ear and is using a newfound career as a newspaper columnist to make his views known. Diplomatic cocktail gossip in Havana centres on whether he is using his clout to hold back economic reforms favoured by his brother and keep Cuba true to his vision of socialism, but the Castros say there is no disagreement between them.

You cannot be a Christian and vote for Obama

I agree with Okami again: freedom of speech is the most important issue.

However, as they are free to say whatever bull**** they want, still we are free not to waste our time on them! As I said, I am not that optimistic about Obama, but let’s see whether he has got any idea behind his smile, especially as welfare and international politics are concerned…

. . .gonna be a while. . .got a helluva lotta damage to undo. . .and if this is really gonna be a ‘free’ country, it’s gonna pop up again and again. . .it has to, otherwise, there’d be no freedoms.

i don’t like it. . .now one whit. . .but if this is truly ‘free’ country, we must expect that we will encounter thngs like this.  otherwise it negates the very principle of freedom.

Good thing Obama won, huh? Now we can send this type of garbage to the trash heap where it belongs.

    Hi okami,

I don’t know if USA are a racist nation, I don’t think so and I hope not. But I agree with you 100% on the other bits of your comments!

this type of story is why i don’t and won’t belong to any church.  Nietschze was 100% correct when he said that "Christianity died on the cross."

people fear change and the future and uncertainity.

this is also a racist nation; the 12 of September 2001 proved that.  it will take about another 400 years to get rid of it. . .maybe.

Ah, by the way. If I were an US citizen, I would vote conservative, but definitely not because of Obama’s skin colour or because of his religious ideas, if any.

That’s why I am afraid Obama’s gonna win: because of conservatives’ lackness of proper arguments, I am afraid…

US fellows: W A K E  U P !!! The world needs a strong US, leaded by an intelligent, rational, liberal person. Not from a religius freak!
